Jaitak Fort is a historically significant place in the chronicles if Sirmour. The fort, in its course of life, had seen numerous wars and deaths of soldiers. Supposedly, the last war the lofty fort witnessed was fought amongst the Gurkha forces and British Generals between the late 18th and early 19th century.
The fort was allegedly built in 1810 from the recovered remains and debris of Nahan Fort and is considered to be one of the oldest forts in Nahan. Ranjor Singh Thapa, the Gorkha leader, along with his soldiers attacked and destroyed the Nahan Fort and built the majestic Jaitak Fort atop the Jaitak Hills with the remains of the ransacked fort.
The antiquity of the hill fort, however, is open to interpretations with several people claiming different histories and age.
At an elevation of approximately 1500 meters above sea level, Jaitak Fort is a beautifully located hill fort in Himachal. Nestled amidst verdant hills and proffering a bird’s eye view of the surroundings, the tourist place in Nahan would definitely lure your senses.

The twin turrets of the forts are a few of the significant remnants of Jaitak Fort, one of which houses the royal guest house, while the other is now a helipad owned and controlled by the Indian Army.
The small palace within the fort’s complex is nicely maintained, reminding the visitors of the old world charms. The best part, however, is not the fort and the palace but the insanely amazing drive that leads one to the fort.
